Streamlining Access with Teamcenter Single Sign-On (SSO) Implementation

Challenge

As the client expanded its use of Teamcenter for enterprise product lifecycle management, it became increasingly clear that a modern, secure, and efficient authentication method was needed. The company required a centralized identification system that could authenticate users via trusted external sources, reducing reliance on locally stored passwords, minimizing login-related troubleshooting, and limiting vulnerability in the event of a cyberattack.

The organization also needed a globally secure environment to facilitate collaboration with employees, suppliers, and customers while protecting sensitive intellectual property. Their legacy approach—relying on separate Teamcenter credentials—lacked integration with existing directory services like Active Directory and LDAP, creating inefficiencies and administrative overhead. A solution was needed that could unify authentication across all Teamcenter applications, support LDAP referrals, and provide seamless user access across multiple directory servers.

Solution

XPERIX designed and deployed a secure and scalable Single Sign-On (SSO) solution using Teamcenter’s native authentication capabilities:

  • Implemented Teamcenter 11.6 and Teamcenter Security Services to enable Single Sign-On (SSO) across all clients.
  • Configured Teamcenter Security Services to use a common authentication framework supporting third-party protocols.
  • Introduced a single login page to unify access across all Teamcenter applications.
  • Integrated a Login Service that communicates with the client’s identity provider (Active Directory/LDAP) to authenticate users and generate SSO tokens.
  • Deployed the login and authentication services on a dedicated web server for stability and scalability.
  • Implemented a Behind Server (Reverse Proxy) to strengthen the security posture by protecting internal services.

Outcome

The implementation of Single Sign-On transformed the way users interacted with the Teamcenter environment. Repetitive manual logins were eliminated, providing a seamless user experience and reducing friction in daily workflows. With access now unified under a secure, centralized system, the company could more effectively enforce corporate security policies without sacrificing convenience.

In addition to the user experience benefits, the new authentication framework significantly lowered administrative overhead related to account management and password resets. IT teams could now focus on strategic initiatives rather than routine maintenance.

By leveraging existing corporate security infrastructure, the client reduced costs and improved system resilience, laying the foundation for secure and scalable digital operations. Thanks to XPERIX’s expert implementation, the organization is now better positioned to grow, collaborate globally, and protect its digital assets without being hindered by outdated authentication models.
